Why do we need a special day to remind us of what we should do every day? Thanksgiving, Mother's Day, Father's Day? We should always try to practice gratitude and be appreciative to those who have sacrificed for our happiness and nurtured us and loved us. Not always easy, I know, but worthy of more than one day a year.

Time to Ditch the To Do List

Confession time: I used to be a To Do List junkie. I used to have to do lists all over the place in various notebooks of different sizes. I also had sticky notes AND to do lists on Notes on my Mac. Work to do lists, family to do lists, food to buy lists, holiday prep to do lists, party prep to do lists – am I alone here or are you with me?

 

Here’s the thing, I thought these to do lists were helping me to organise my thoughts and my tasks when in fact, they were causing me stress, frustration and overwhelm. How many lifetimes would I need to get half of all that stuff done?

 

So after much trial and error, this is the conclusion I came to: To Do lists are great for a brain dump, but they are awful as a task management tool.

Why New Year Resolutions Don’t Stick

Happy New Year!

 

Over the last few years, my family has had a tradition of starting the year by going around the table and sharing our New Year’s Resolutions. We then go back around the table and suggest resolutions for each other. Dangerous stuff I know! Fortunately, we haven’t killed each other yet.

 

But seriously, the act of setting a resolution is both important and rewarding, especially as we come out of 2020 which was such a disaster for so many.  The need to set goals and resolutions is more important than ever for 2021 as they give us something to hope for, to look forward to and to strive for.

How are your New Year Resolutions going?

 

My biggest one this year was self-care and so far, so good. At the end of last year, I got myself into a real state physically, mentally and emotionally by not practicing self-care and I wanted to do things differently this year. I know that people get really confused about what self-care is. In fact, one client recently asked, “Is it just manicures and massages?”

I wanted to share my answer with you today and challenge you to start practicing self-care too!

Self-care is any activity that we do deliberately in order to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health. Although it seems simple to action, it’s something we very often put to the bottom of our to do list. Beat the January Blues

So here we are at the beginning of 2021 and...we are back in lockdown!

To be honest, I can't say this situation is very different from Tier 4 except that the kids are now back to online learning. I have friends in other parts of the world that seem to be living life more normally, but we are all still feeling the stress that the pandemic has brought.

I know there have been a lot of hopes pinned on the end of 2020 and a return to normal life in 2021, but I'm afraid we're not out of the woods yet. On the up side, vaccinations have started and there is a light at the end of the tunnel. On the down side, that light is further away than we thought and we won't get there before March at the earliest.

But don't lose hope my friends! We have all learned from the previous lockdowns and it is a new year with a great opportunity to do things differently. I am of course focusing on how to be more productive as I am a productivity coach, but before we dive into that...
